The Story

The past few years have been a season of unraveling and rebuilding for our family. There isn’t enough time to tell the whole story—unless you’re ready to settle in with a fireside novel and a cup of tea—but here’s the heart of it: we realized life needs to be slower, gentler, and richer.
Below are a few snapshots of that journey.

Good things start with good friends.

It started in her best friend's kitchen. Megan had just had her first baby and, in a pursuit of a healthier life, had started detoxifying their home and diet. Her baby has a little bit of eczema, so she was in pursuit of a clean skin care product, but was left with sub-par products, or something she couldn't afford. Megan also just so happened to have the best neighbor in the world, Laura Wise. Laura always had a warm meal ready for them, warm conversation, or warm coffee. This day, Laura was making homemade lotion and gave her a jar.

The Butter.

Oh, the butter. It glided on smoothly. No concerns for toxins, and baby Selah's cold weather dry cheeks healed, as well as her eczematous dry patches. Megan was sold and started making it her own. She added thises and thats, and found different formulations worked for different issues. It was a fun and creative break from the reality of being an urgent care PA during the COVID pandemic.

2019

Hormone disruption disrupted.

In 2021, at the height of covid and facing an early burnout from working in COVID specific urgent care, Megan jumped ship and started her journey into integrative medicine. She started helping women with their hormones, and and learned that the number one question when someone's estrogen was very high on a test was, "did you use any cosmetic products before this test?"

Xenoestrogens have made their way into our homes through promises of fragrant soft skin and anti-aging. This has a slew of health concerns. Megan learned that, in just about every category, going "back to the garden," (of Eden) is our best bet in the pursuit of health.

The Quest To Perfection

Megan looked back at her body butter. There was no other skin care product that was quite as versatile as this one. It worked for a full body butterin', pregnant belly stretch mark prevention, baby full body butter, diaper rash cream, nipple butter, beard butter, massage oil, rash soother, after sun care (we have stopped so many sunburns in our home due to this butter!), and even a makeup remover. We really didn't need any other products.

Pediatric Immunology Education Please

In 2023, Megan wanted to go to a conference on pediatric immunology, but had already blown through her CME budget. She decided to sell her body butter at her medical office for a fundraiser to be able to go to the conference. She sold $1500 worth of product in 3 weeks and was able to go! However, when she returned, the orders did not stop. She was both pestered and encouraged by patients, their families, and her friends, so she made a small business out of it.

While the labeling has improved, there has been nothing like the sales guy we had in 2023. He got people trying our butters got Megan to that conference (see the excited hand?) On the right - Megan on the way to Boston with the kitty to whom she promised Selah she would show everything.

Then Came Asa, Then Came Magnesium

Because of life, body butter was on the back burner for a couple years, until her surprise 3rd pregnancy with Asa. Megan developed leg cramps that kept her up at night. When you prescribe medicine, you really need your sleep. She learned a couple of options were either nightly Epsom Salt baths or topical Magnesium Chloride. What mom of two has time for Epsom salt baths every night? Topical it was! The oil she bought bought made her skin feel salty and itchy, so she decided to mix it in body butter. The result? Perfection. It worked - beautifully. To this day, the blends with the addition of magnesium are her most popular - alleviating muscle cramps, some cases of Restless Leg Syndrome, helping with sleep, anxiety and even constipation.

Megan isn't pregnant anymore, but still needs the Magnesium butter to chill out after a day with Mr. Speedster, Asa.

What is happening with Mama Megan's today?

Mama Megan's Organic Goods is in two brick and mortar stores (hopefully four by February of 2026!) and the team is continually both shocked by the extremely positive feedback and endlessly thankful. Its not a rare occurrence that a patient shares tearfully that the magnesium butter is the only thing that helps them sleep, or that the Original helped their baby's diaper rash. We are so thankful and excited to share this beyond the scope of family and friends.
